These plants are so ornamental many gardeners use them in containers and their borders. The stalks of Bright Lights are thick yet tender-crisp while the flavor is somewhat less beety than Ruby chard.

Chilean Glory Vine wsFull Sun.  10 to 15 feet. The colors of the 1-1/4″ blossoms of this vine flower range from orange/salmon, to red and yellow. Its tubular flowers bloom summer-long amid small green ovate leaves textured by pronounced veining.  This vine is a very fast grower.  Requires trellising.

Chinese Forget-Me-Nots/ Cynoglossum Blue Showers

Plant in fertile well drained soil.  Avoid too much nitrogen, which will encourage larger, coarser foliage with few flowers. Blue Showers is good as a cut flower and for bedding.

Sun.  Perennial. One of the first greens to appear in the spring garden.  The lilac colored flowers are also edible.  

Chives

Full sun. 12 to 16 inches.  Chives prefer fertile, moist soils but will grow well in less than optimal conditions.  Chives bloom after its first spring flush of new leaves.  Chive blossoms are used to infusion vinegar with flavor and color.

Cigar Plant / Cuphea Rose

Full sun to partial shade.  10 to 12 inches.  Slender tubular-shaped rose colored flowers tipped with yellow are borne on bushy plants with glossy foliage. Plants bloom summer to frost. Cuphea does best in a humus rich well drained soil.  Excellent plant for borders and containers.

Full sun.  12 inches.  Cilantro is  fragrant mix of parsley and citrus flavors.  The plant will bolt with summer’s heat so let some of it go to seed for another round of plants and a second harvest.
